The 6309-7049 is one of Seiko's most iconic tool watches. Replacing the 6105 in 1976, the 6309 solidified the Japanese maker's penchant for making sturdy, purposeful built dive watches that also happened to be aesthetically amazing.
The substantial 45mm symmetrical cushion case is more unobtrusive than its size suggests on the wrist, where it strikes a fantastic profile due to its curved shape. Other changes from the 6309 continued the practical design philosophy, with circular luminous plots and bell markers instead of rectangular ones (adding to legibility), and the addition of a day function.
We've pared the watch with an Uncle Seiko Waffle rubber strap, a reproduction of the original Waffle straps from the 1970s.
