About
First introduced in 1969, the Memomatic is Omega’s first and only mechanical alarm watch. The revolutionary 980 caliber housed inside presented a number of innovations, including making the Memomatic the first watch with an alarm powered by automatic winding, as well as a setting mechanism that allowed the alarm to be set to the minute.
Although it has admirers among alarm watch collectors, the Memomatic has arguably flown under the radar with the general public when compared to other Omegas from this era. When Daniel Craig showed one off while discussing his personal watch collection with Esquire, the interviewer admitted he had not even heard of it before then. Moreover, only around 35,000 Memomatic models were ever produced, so finding a good condition one can be a challenge.
Today’s 1971 example is the best one we have seen yet, with a robust gold plated case and crisp dial in near mint condition considering its age. We’ve also had the movement overhauled by Omega service in Switzerland, so it’s keeping time and functioning flawlessly. Whether you are specifically looking for one, or would like to add something unique to the collection, it doesn’t get any neater than this strikingly cool vintage alarm.
