About

We love the unique and unusual here at the shop, so we are quite smitten with this rare Omega De Ville from 1969. Featuring a date at 9 o’clock, the 146.017 has been nicknamed “Dato” by collectors after the Heuer chronograph also featuring a 9 o’clock date window. However, while the Heuer scrapped a register in favour of the date, the Omega simply integrates it with the sub-seconds. The result is a more balanced, dynamic layout than the Heuer.

There are other cool visual touches here adding to the appeal, such as the black hands, markers and printed tachymeter scale that provide contrast with the gold dial, or the radial numerals on the minute counter. Combined with a 34.5mm polished gold plated case that wears slightly larger due to the flat, almost c-case design, this watch has an understated, complex wrist presence.

Interestingly, the “Dato” did not sell well when it was released and was only produced from 1969 to 1970. Only 2500 pieces were ever made, and it’s questionable how many have survived up to now, making this a particularly hard to find watch.

We’ve paired it with the popular Molequin Saffiano strap in black to complete the look.
