About
We are excited to present a rare Omega "soccer timer" in the shop today. Similar to other Omega Seamaster chronographs from the era, this watch comes in a comfortable 38mm cushion case and is powered by the at-the-time newly introduced caliber 861, which had replaced the caliber 321 also found in the Speedmaster.
Although the belief is that these were originally created for soccer referees in the 1970 World Cup, there is no official documentation stating so. A few different variations were made, all with the same white or grey dial with distinctive red/black registers and additional 45-minute track on the minute subdial (to time soccer halves more easily). White dial versions such as today's example would have an orange seconds chrono hand, here faded to an attractive pale yellow colour, and a slate blue outer track with minute indicators and smaller ⅙ second marks corresponding to the upgraded 21,600 BPH of the caliber 861.
Overall, this is definitely one of the cooler purpose built chronographs we've had pass through the shop. Its unique, colourful design pops on the wrist and provides a wearing experience like no other watch.
We’ve paired it with a Molequin Saffiano strap in Oxford blue to complete the look.
