About
Founded in the UK in 1966, Chronosport distributed high-end sport watches like Breitling and Heuer to the British market, designating themselves “Europe’s largest specialists in the field of sports and special watches, timers and timing equipment.” They also produced their own watches, recognized by a distinctive airplane logo trade mark on the dials.
The attractive example we have in the shop today is the Astro Chrono, a multi purpose tool watch from the late 1960s. A Chronosport catalogue from 1969 claimed the Astro was “developed from a chronograph originally designed for Naval Pilots” and listed it for £27, approximately £400 today.
The dial features a 30 minute register with blue 5 minute and red 10 minute countdown zones as well as white tachymeter and red telemeter scales, while the rotating bezel includes 60 minutes and 12 hour scales. We particularly love the orange lollipop seconds hand that makes reading the chronograph a breeze.
