We are excited to offer this magnificent clock dating to approximately 1890. Retailed by Tiffany & Co. and signed both on the dial and the movement, this beautiful clock is housed in an urn-form case composed of gilt bronze with fine champlevé enamel decoration. The clock sits on an onyx base with bronze feet. The top features a figure of a cherub holding two cymbals, and opens to reveal the movement and original lever escapement. The bronze still retains some of the original gilt in places, but more importantly the champlevé decoration is perfect and damage-free. In real life the colourful decoration is simply stunning. The onyx base as well as the thick, heavily bevelled crystal are also damage-free.
The clock measures approximately 28cm (11") tall and is around 15cm (6") wide at the base. It weights a little under 4kg (8.8 pounds). I have included a new Swiss made key for winding.
We have serviced the 8-day French movement and it runs eagerly, keeping excellent time, as well as chiming the hours and half hour correctly. It sounds lovely.
