About

Introduced in 1953, Zodiac’s popular Seawolf model went through many iterations during the mid-century, from steel bezels and radium no-date dials to later models with colourful Bakelite bezels. Reference 722-946, the fantastic model we have in the shop today, is perhaps one of the most unconventional but sought after variants of the popular vintage diver.

Still cased in the classic round Seawolf shape (Zodiac started to experiment with different case shapes in the 1970s), the 722–946 offered an appealing bi-directional grey-blue bezel with orange markings along with a bright orange chapter ring, and a black tritium lumed dial with white hour hand and orange minute hand.

The watch also came equipped with the 72b movement, which offered a quickset feature seldom found on watches at the time. To use it, you simply push in the crown to advance the date.

It’s easy to see why collectors have flocked to this particular Seawolf, and why modern era Zodiac takes so many design cues from it. The combination of classic and bold styling makes this piece stunning to behold on the wrist. And for vintage enthusiasts this particular example is a dream, with a faded bezel and nicely patinated dial and hands, the kind of appealing character you simply can’t find in a reissue.

We have paired it with a tan Molequin leather strap to make this Seawolf a perfect fit for everyday wear.
