The Tudor Prince was a popular bestseller in its day for a reason. The watch exudes a simple elegance on the wrist, at once both unpretentious and demanding of respect. Today the line is a hip alternative to wearing a Rolex DateJust, at an irresistible price point. Aesthetically it's very reminiscent of its bigger brother, with Gold fluted bezel, acrylic crystal with "cyclop" date window, and classic case and dial design (produced by Rolex).
The Tudor branded ETA 2824-2 movement has been given a complete service, and as expected works excellent, keeping accurate time. The quickset date is snappy and works as intended. I have replaced the acrylic crystal and the back gasket with proper new ones. The case has some minor marks of wear (on the bottom lugs and back in particular) but more importantly retains a clean finish and sharp lines. Interestingly, the case back is missing the engraved Rolex markings, although it has the correct inside markings. Whether the outside markings were removed at one point to make way for a personalized engraving that never came or was eventually removed, or whether it came out of the factory this way (as some manufacturers such as Omega did to allow for personalized engravings), we are not sure.
We have pared the watch with a Hirsch alligator embossed leather strap that adds to the elegant vintage look of this stylish Tudor.
