About

In 1894 Francois Chevillat designed a 19-ligne movement that revolutionized the watchmaking industry. Assembled with interchangeable components and produced with industrial scale production, the Omega calibre was remarkable for its high quality construction and notable features such as the patented keyless works that allowed the crown to both wind and set the time. The movement was such an astounding success that the company that produced it, Louis Brandt & Frere, adopted the name and established itself as the Omega Watch Co. in 1903.

The Canadian market Omega we have in the shop today features a particularly fine, high-grade 19-ligne movement from 1906, with decorated bridges, 21 jewels with chatons, and a graduated snail regulator. We’ve performed a full overhaul and service on the movement and it is keeping great time.

The enamel dial features a recessed centre and small seconds, with Paris-style Arabic numerals and blued steel spade hands. The watch is housed inside an elegant Empress gold filled case by the American Watch Case Co. of Toronto, and features detailed decoration on both the screw-on back and bezel, with an ornate shield on the back meant for an engraved monogram.

Overall, a fantastic piece of horological history, and a fine addition to any collection.
