One of the more unique Memovox models made, the E861 features an oversized brushed oval case and the infamous Caliber 825. The bumper winding and hammer alarm system are marvellously tactile, and you can feel both moving as you wear the watch on your wrist. The E861 was introduced in 1968, and this particular model dates to that same year.
I have serviced the movement, and it works eagerly, keeping excellent time. The alarm works correctly (and is very satisfying to use.) The original dial has developed an interesting, even patina. Both hands and dial retain their original lume. I have left the case unpolished. The case back shows some scratches, but the front is stunning, almost in mint condition, and retains its original brush finish. I have replaced the gasket and acrylic crystal (with a proper, heavily domed crystal), and pared the watch with a new dark blue, Hirsch hypoallergenic strap that matches its vintage character and helps to bring out the blue colour on the dial.
Overall, this is a superb and sharp example of a superbly interesting JLC model from the 1960s.
