By now the story is horological legend: in the late 1960s a number of companies competed to create the first ever automatic chronograph. Although they were arguably beat by Zenith, who presented the first prototype of its movement in January 1969, a joint enterprise by Heuer, Hamilton and Breitling presented its Caliber 11 automatic chronograph movement to the public on March 3rd, 1969. All three brands were retailing watches powered by this movement by the same summer, before the first automatic chronograph Zeniths were available for sale in the fall.
While the debate rages on who truly was first, it’s hard to deny that Hamilton’s Chrono-Matic is one of the finest automatic chronographs produced in this era. Coming in a classic round case with short angular lugs, a stunning matte blue dial and painted white hands, the Chrono-Matic is an immediate eye-catcher. The silver tachymeter and white on black date complete the subtle but arresting aesthetic.
We have pared it with a handmade leather strap in a deep brown colour that we think looks amazing with the brilliantly subdued colours of the watch.

Overall condition:Case in excellent condition, with sharp edges and minor marks of wear, minimal signs of polishing. Original Hamilton crown. Dial and hands are fantastic and vibrant, some small loss of paint on hands at a few spots. Original lume is thick, with creamy patina.
