About
With a rich history involving motorsports and Everest expeditions, and watches built with unique in-house movements and bold styling, Enicar has cemented its place in enthusiasts hearts. Today’s model was produced during the brand’s sunset period, the quartz crisis of the 1970s, and is one of the last big swings from the at-the-time family owned business.
The Super Dive MkIII comes with an oversized 43mm cushion case that wears surprisingly well due to its short lugs and contoured shape. Some notable features are the bayonet caseback (removing the chance of ruined threading as with typical screw back cases) as well as dual crowns, one of which is for the inner rotating bezel. Inside is an automatic AR167, featuring a neat quickset date mechanism which works by pulling the crown out and then pushing in to advance the date (the day has to be adjusted first manually).
The star of the show of course is the colourful dial, which features wide hands, thick applied hour markers, and matching orange minute chapter ring and sweep seconds hand. The rotating bezel on this one has faded to an attractive yellow-orange colour, adding to the vintage charm.
We’ve paired this colourful unique piece with a Molequin chocolate brown grained calf strap with white stitching to match the white accents on the hands and dial. Overall a super cool watch that would make a superb addition to any collection.
Details
Movement:
Type: Automatic Wind, Cal 167, 24 jewels
We have given the movement a full overhaul, and it works eagerly, keeping good time. The quickset date works as intended. One year mechanical warranty included.
Case:
43mm (not including crowns) stainless steel case and back
Strap:
Molequin Grained Calf in chocolate brown (MSRP: €105.00)
Overall condition:
While the case (particularly the back) show obvious signs of polish, the case retains a nice, thick shape, and even some of its original finish. The acrylic crystal has been replaced with an original new-old-stock crystal that has a few marks from storage. Both crowns are original and signed, although the top rotating bezel crown is newer while the bottom winding crown shows some wear. The rotating bezel has faded to an attractive yellow-orange colour. The matte black dial is good, with crisp writing, some minor discolouration and staining apparent under certain angles. Some of the applied markers appear to have been reglued. Original hands are excellent.
