About

Bulova released a number of interesting chronographs in the early 70s, some of which have recently enjoyed a revival by being reintroduced as part of the company's "Archive" retro series. One of the first on the market in 1970 was the fairly straightforward reference 31000-3W. Unlike the other chronographs that Bulova released during this period, this model was not rated for deep sea diving or came with a rotating bezel. What it did feature was an attractive cushion case, a dependable manual wind movement based on a Valjoux 7733, and a brilliant blue dial.

Like the similarly cushion shaped Waltham chronograph we recently featured on the site, the star of the show here is that blue dial. The colour is a lovely dark blue that brings to mind imagery of the deep ocean at nighttime. The simple hour markers, printed Bulova, and inside tachymeter scale along with the reverse Panda registers really brings the look of the watch together.

The stainless steel case features a sunburst finish, faceted lugs, round pump pushers and a signed crown. It genuinely has very minor marks of wear and looks excellent. The watch comes on a black Hirsch Ranger strap that ties in with the vintage, classic look of the watch.

We have serviced the movement and provide a one year warranty.
