We just got this sleek Zodiac Aerospace GMT out of the workshop, and it's a stunner. This is the bakelite bezel variant of the famed GMT watch, and the crisp, minty colours don't disappoint. Both the bezel and case are impeccably sharp, with absolutely minimal marks of wear found, aside from loss of the brushed finish on the case back. Our guess is this watch was stored away for most of its life.
The dial features that lovely combination of deep black with the cursive lettering that makes this model so distinctive. It has the later, flat and wide indices and a seconds hand with a rectangular lollipop end. The tritium lume has a nice, creamy patina, and as always on these, we love the touch of colour the red GMT hand brings.
We have serviced and regulated the Caliber 75 automatic wind movement and it keeps excellent time. The GMT function and hacking work as they should. A new, appropriately thick acrylic crystal has been installed as well as an unsigned but appropriate crown.
To match its cool, versatile tool history, we have pared the watch with a black Hirsch Tiger performance strap that is supremely comfortable to wear. Overall this is a great looking, highly collectible Zodiac. We recommend adding one to your collection sooner rather than later. Prices are slowly rising as original, clean examples become harder to find.
