About

In 1968, Tudor released a new Submariner, reference 7016/0. This reference introduced a lot of firsts for the Tudor Sub, including the transition to an ETA movement, the first dial with a shield logo, and of course the snowflake hands that have become a signature trait of Tudor sports watches.

This particular 7016 is an early example from 1968, and features a number of interesting differences from later variations of the reference. Most obviously it features the rose logo and lollipop hands before the switch in 1969 to the shield logo and snowflake hands. The semi-pointed crown guards (Semi-PCG) case was also produced for only a brief period in the first half of 1968 before the switch to regular rounded crown guards. The inside of the case back is stamped  “I 68” and “7528”, as all rose dial examples should be. The belief today is that 7528 was going to be the numbered reference before Tudor changed it to 7016.

Overall this piece is a great find for any collector, particularly anyone with an interest in Rolex or Tudor history.
